Innate Trigger – Entrapment Sequence : The Chokepoint
The Rulers had known from the beginning that the Tech Cartels would emerge. Their existence was never an unintended consequence of the Grids but a calculated element of the system itself. Across the megacities, Cartels were infiltrated and guided by operatives loyal to the Rulers. Yet not all remained under their control. Some discovered the true nature of the system and evolved into independent syndicates, becoming enemies not only of the Rulers and their Cartels, but often of the Resistance as well.
Recently, the Rulers launched a coordinated operation in the southern sector of Megacity 2 within the North America Grid. Working alongside an allied Tech Cartel, they baited the Resistance into attacking an implant and prosthetics laboratory already under their control. The assault unfolded exactly as expected until the trap was sprung. Of the twelve Resistance fighters who entered the facility, only four survived, one of them wounded.
The survivors escaped into the tunnel network beneath the complex, unaware that the operation was far from over. The Rulers then activated the Barrier, sealing the entire sector physically, digitally, and energetically. No one could enter, leave, or communicate with the outside world. Military units were deployed into the tunnels with orders to capture the surviving Resistance members. In response, the Resistance attempted something unprecedented.
A strike team was sent from Megacity 1 of the West Asia Grid to Megacity 2 within at the North America Grid through the teleportation network, crossing Grid boundaries for the first time. After reviewing the intelligence, Major Alexey Lobov, the Resistance’s only operative enhanced with advanced implants and prosthetics, concluded that the mission had little chance of success without him.
He entered the operation personally, fully aware he might be stepping directly into the Rulers’ trap. What remains unknown is whether this was the objective all along. Perhaps the ambush, the Barrier, and the isolation of the sector were never meant to capture four Resistance fighters. Perhaps they were designed to draw in many more. If so, the tunnels bellow them are no longer an escape route. They have become a hunting ground.
