The transport aircraft of the deserters from the Overlord Army dropped us about five kilometers from the Nomad camp. It was nighttime, and surely they would have heard the propeller driven aircraft approaching from afar without being able to see it, so the camp was likely on alert under Fernanda’s orders. To avoid being mistaken for intruders, we activated our communication devices to inform them that we were approaching with the two vehicles Buck and his team had provided.
– Fernanda, are you there? Can anyone from the camp hear us?
– Cipher, yes, we hear you loud and clear. Everything okay?
– Yes, we have a lot to talk about. We’re coming with two new vehicles. I’ll explain.
– Alright, we’re expecting you.
We returned to the camp, and while the technicians inspected the vehicles Buck had given us, we updated Fernanda with the information his team had shared. She remained cautious since Buck once a commander in the Overlord Army stationed at Megacity 1 of the North America Grid and his people had formerly been enemies of the resistance. She wasn’t sure they had completely shed their ideological past. It was a serious concern, but Cipher, Zero, and Emma, who had spoken with Buck, explained to Fernanda that collaborating with the deserters led by Buck was the only way to get closer to the truth about the mechanical obelisk and the underground structure housing the bio-computer. Buck’s information regarding the intentions of the Neural Seraph and the Mystic Covenant was deeply troubling. Fernanda didn’t want to risk the security of the camp or everything the Nomads had built just to support the deserters’ plans, no matter how friendly Buck seemed. Cipher was convinced the Nomads needed to ally with Buck’s group, but Zero and Emma fully understood Fernanda’s concerns. They agreed to drop the matter for now and rest since no decision needed to be made immediately. In any case, the Wastelands are a place where decisions carry immense weight and must be calculated down to the last detail. One thing is certain: Buck and his deserters will appear again soon and the Nomads will have to decide.
