As Andreas’ better-equipped team escorted us to their aircraft, we couldn’t ignore how easily they could’ve overpowered us. Once aboard, we met Buck a former commander of the overlords’ army in Megacity 3. He revealed that defectors had abandoned the Grids, forming global paramilitary cells to fight back from the outside. These groups had rebuilt old bases, vehicles, and networks, and were now secretly aligned with resistance cells inside select Megacities. Their goal: to eventually retake entire Grids. But the bigger threat, Buck warned, came from the Neural Seraphs and the Mystic Covenant factions blending cybernetics with metaphysics, operating beyond known limits. The obelisks and bio-computers were just the beginning. “We didn’t destroy them because we need to understand them,” he said. “Their influence grows, and not even the overlords fully control them.” Before landing near the Nomads’ camp, Buck handed us two armored eeps a gesture of goodwill and a message to deliver to Fernanda. We left the aircraft with new allies, new questions, and the weight of something far greater than another war.
