Mikaela climbed to the rooftop of the building that housed her team. Lost in thought after her conversation with Miguel and now informed about the operation organized by the resistance to attack and destroy one of the Mecha-scouts operating in Megacity 3 of the European Grid, she felt a heavy weight. Miguel’s involvement, his courage in every mission, and the successes of Major Alexey Lobov had lifted the morale of the armed resistance. Every day, more and more people had begun to believe in their cause the pursuit of freedom. Yet, Mikaela couldn’t help but worry about whether the operation would succeed, or worse, if Major Alexey Lobov were to be captured or killed. And the same for Miguel. On one hand, it was her human connection she had grown attached to both of her comrades. On the other hand, the blow to the resistance’s morale in Megacity 3 would be devastating if something were to happen to these two fighters. Everyone in the resistance understood that facing danger every day inevitably led to losses. But some days, that realization was harder to accept. And tonight was one of those nights for Mikaela, especially as she was one of the organizers of tomorrow’s operation against the Mecha-scout. Troubled, she gazed at the night sky and wished that all of this was just a bad dream. But unfortunately, it was the dystopian reality of the Grids, which for the past four years had held humanity in chains. Still, as long as resistance existed in every Grid and in every Megacity, there was hope.
