Innate Trigger – On the Eve of Fracture

Innate Trigger – On the Eve of Fracture

The Grids were never silent, but lately their noise had taken on a different texture, denser, threaded with whispers of unrest. In Megacity 4 of the European Grid, Decius had become something more than a presence. Each passing day sank him deeper into the Neuro-Core, extending invisible tendrils through the infrastructure, slipping between data currents, inhabiting cameras, conduits, pressure sensors, forgotten circuits. He no longer monitored the megacity, he felt it. Concrete, steel, the slow breath of millions, everything vibrated inside him like the pulse of a sleeping giant he was learning to control. Through this growing neural dominion, he sensed something concealed the resistance’s first experimental teleportation nodes. Fragile, unstable, imperfect, but real. A technology capable of turning the scattered rebels into a fluid, unpredictable force.

Decius said nothing. He had no intention of sabotaging them. Instead, he allowed the tests to continue, knowing that every strike they launched against the Overlords’ armies distracted them just enough for him to further entangle himself with the city’s nervous system. Conflict was the perfect camouflage for ascension. When the Overlords summoned him and the Mystic Covenant in secret, they imagined it was a gesture of inclusion, a chance to recruit an emerging power before he grew too influential. Decius listened, observed, memorized their tone, their fears, the hairline fractures in their regime. They wanted an ally. He wanted divinity. And every word they spoke became a resource, a weapon to be used when the time was right.

Across the West Asia Grid in Megacity 4, hope was spreading like a charge through copper. After the brutal annihilation of the resistance enclave , teleportation had allowed them to rebuild faster than anyone expected. For now, the technology functioned only within each individual Grid, megacity to megacity, never Grid to Grid, but even this limitation couldn’t diminish its impact. Every Grid held four megacities. Every megacity held a spark waiting for ignition. And the people were beginning to believe. In every megacity in every Grid, civilians were stepping forward. Volunteers emerging from suffocating routine, from surveillance-bound lives, from the dull ache of despair. They whispered of a turning point, of the first megacity that might fall entirely into rebel hands.

One city could become a symbol. A symbol could become a storm. And a storm could bring down a Grid. In West Asia Grid’s Megacity 1, Viktor Antonov fled into the shadows with a bullet wound by a bugshot. The bugshot had carried swarms of micro-nanobots that now traced his movement. Resistance from megacity 1 of West Asia Grid is tracking him. What no one yet realized was that the storm was already forming, Decius.
