Innate Trigger – The Wager
The glow of the bio-computer screen pulsed faintly in the dim room. Outside the reinforced window, moonlight spilled over the fractured earth of the Wastelands. Buck stood motionless, still in uniform, gear scattered across the table beside him, rifle propped against the wall. Buck had deserted the Overlord Army of Megacity 1 in the North America Grid, and gathered a force of rogue soldiers. His current goal: to take Megacity 4 of the South America Grid. But the path forward had grown dangerously tangled. He had reached out to the Mystic Covenant offering not only his allegiance, but the spiritual integration of his deserters in exchange for knowledge. For power. He wanted to understand their metaphysical union with the Neural Seraphs: entities no longer bound by physical laws, but by a hive consciousness, emerging from the deepest parts of the European Grid. But now… he hesitated.
